OUR RESTAURANT

THE MONK IS A WONDERFULLY COSY, FAMILY OWNED RESTAURANT, IN THE WARM HEART OF QUORN, IN LEICESTERSHIRE; WELL KNOWN FOR ITS FOOD AND THE MAGICAL EXPERINCE IT HAS CREATED;

‘This unique, historic thatched building was originally a row of three cottages, then a family butchers, before becoming a restaurant; tracing its origins back to the late 16th century and, there are stories of it dating back a great deal further, perhaps as part of a medieval convent. An active, though thankfully benign, paranormal presence may well further attest to this; if only she could talk!

In July 2025, the founders Simon and Carla (Who retreated, after many happy years, rather creakily, into semi retirement), passed the baton on to me, Finlay (Fin). I’ve a huge love for hospitality, food , wines and fine drinks. I qualified as a chef, locally and, after seven years working behind the stove and front of house, at The Monk, I jumped at the opportunity to be able to be able to add to the experience that is so important to our customers. To us, it will always be about so much more than a cracking plate of food

With everything on the menus prepared in house, they change seasonally, using local suppliers wherever possible. The soul of The Monk remains the same. The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The thoughtful, seasonal menu. The familiar faces behind the bar and in the kitchen. The great wine list, curated with care. And of course, that feeling you get when you walk in and know you're in for something special.

Simon is still around—popping in from time to time and continuing to oversee the wine list with his trademark passion and wit. Carla also lends her magic to the kitchen now and then, supporting the team in her quietly brilliant way.
